Cyclist Service
Pastor: The Rev. Edwin H. Wicks
Congregation: 175 members
At a glance: Grace Lutheran Church provides a traditional
Lutheran service at their regular worship time throughout the year.
During the summer, the church offers special services for bicyclists
and other users of the MoPac East Hiker-Biker Trail. These special
services are informal, nondenominational services, which are open to
anyone; casual dress is preferred. The biker services attract
worshipers of many religious backgrounds.
Pastor Ed described the church as "a small parish with a big heart."
He said the one comment he hears from visitors is "Everyone is so
friendly and the sanctuary is so warm and inviting." He said the
congregation strives to be an "extended family" for members and
visitors. "We feel that our time together on Sunday morning is not
only a time to revitalize and renew ourselves for the week ahead,
but also a time to come together as a family - sharing with each
other the joys and the sorrows that life brings to each of us. It is
in this sharing that we are touched by the love of God.”
Programs: Christian education is an important ministry of the
church. From September through May, the church offers adult Bible
study and classes for preschool through junior high age. High school
students are encouraged to attend the adult Bible study class.
The church youth group meets regularly, and takes a mission trip
each summer. The church has a summer vacation bible school program.
The music program features a choir that provides music for special
services.
Women of the church provide food for funerals and other special
events.
A mother-daughter luncheon is held each year around Mother's Day.
The church helps support the People's City Mission, Habitat for
Humanity, Friendship Home and other local charities.
Wednesday evening soup suppers and worship services are held during
the Advent and Lenten seasons |
